Great all rounderBy: Lincoln on 7 June 2018I sold my Badlands jacket and went to the Carlsbad for something cooler in the warm Brisbane weather, but also a jacket that provided good protection for city commuting, touring and offroad adventure riding. I recently used the Carlsbad for sports touring in Europe in all weather conditions, such as heavy rain, cool alps and 30-40 degrees down low and certainly rate the Carlsbad in all weather conditions. In the heavy rain, it never leaked a drop. When all zipped up it kept enough warmth in the alps without having to layer underneath, and has plenty of vents when it gets hot. The only negative to the jacket is the ability to do the zips up on the fly - you need to stop and use 2 hands to do the sleeve zips up properly. There is plenty of armour and you can also add a kidney belt. Sizing is spot on.
Buying quality nowBy: Greg Davis on 12 February 2018I bought a Carlsbad jacket because I was looking for a waterproof option without the heavy multi layer jacket. Although I am trying to venture off road more I have to admit I will spend most of my time on the tar so I still need maximum protection and the D3O armour on the shoulders, elbows and back provides this without the bulk of old style armour. The arms of my medium size feel a little long but the once on the bike they are ok and adjustment straps near the elbows hold the armour in place well. There are plenty of pockets inside and out with zippers along the arms, chest and back for ventilation which worked very well on a hot summer day although you do find yourself holding your arms out like a chicken to find the best angle. The Gortex and waterproof zippers have not been put to the test yet (bloody drought). I have found the jacket very comfortable even on the first ride and should get even better with wear. I also like the replacement warranty if damaged in an accident that you can provide a police report for but I hope never to use it. I have had a custom made leather jacket for 19 years and probably 5 x $100 jackets over the same time so I see this as a long term investment. Greg
