Adventure Riders, the annual Scrapheap Adventure Ride is happening soon in support of Down Syndrome Australia and it’s not too late to get involved; ride, donate or come along to support the AdventureMoto BBQ fundraiser - every dollar counts.

Goal: 100 Riders + $100,000 = $1 Million+ Raised!

This year’s goal is to have 100 riders on board, each contributing to the target of raising $100,000 for Down Syndrome Australia, taking the overall total raised over the 13 years to over $1 million+. But there’s more than one way to get involved and help us raise these much needed funds.

What’s The Scrapheap Ride all About?

The Scrapheap Adventure Ride is a unique fundraising event that involves motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the country purchasing a bike for no more than $1000 (a ‘Scrapper’) and doing it up for an adventure ride through the Aussie Outback. The aim? To have fun and to support an important cause – people with Down Syndrome. AdventureMoto’s Steve is joining the ride, but keep reading for all the ways you can get involved.

13 Years of Making a Difference For Down Syndrome

Perry Gilsenan, Scrapheap Adventure Ride organiser and Head Scrapper since 2010, hatched the idea for a wild ride during a conversation with OldDog, aka Bill Wilkin on Advrider. They thought it would be a fun challenge to resurrect old bikes (under $500), get them running and then set out to see if they could reach their destination. Wanaaring was chosen for the ride and as Perry’s daughter Grace has Down Syndrome, they decided to use the ride to raise funds and awareness for Down Syndrome Australia.

Fast forward 13 years and the Scrapheap Adventure Ride has raised over $970,000 for the Down Syndrome community. It's a testament to the dedication and generosity of the participating riders. This year riders are encouraged to begin their adventure from their homes or wherever they choose, but all roads lead to one destination – Woodenbong, New South Wales. From September 29th to October 1st, 2023, all Scrappers and their friends and family will converge at a campsite for a weekend filled with fun and entertainment.

Here’s how you can Contribute to the Target:

Ride & Fundraise

The Scrapheap Adventure Ride is about having fun and raising awareness and funds for Down Syndrome Australia. All bikes are welcome - you don’t have to have a Scrapheap! However if you want to stay true to the challenge you’ll get yourself a bike costing less than $1000 and spend any additional sums to make it roadworthy. All machines participating must be registered or have a valid Unregistered Vehicle Permit - UVP.

Then make a (suggested) $100 tax-deductible donation to register. Set up your Scrapheap Adventure Ride challenge webpage (only takes a minute), add photos, blog entries, etc. so your friends can check out your machine and sponsor your ride. Remember if you don’t have a suitable Scrapper to ride, you can ride your everyday bike and still participate in the event in the same way.

Get there by Dirt or Road - find all the information you need to participate at Scrapheap Adventure Ride.

Donate To The Scrapeheap Ride

Not a rider, can’t make the ride? No problem! You can still support the Scrapheap Adventure Ride and Down Syndrome Australia by sponsoring a rider, making a donation directly to the cause, or coming along to the AdventureMoto BBQ Breakfast Fundraiser. Every contribution counts.
